The Struggle for the Right to Food and Nutrition People’s Monitoring for Accountability Beyond the SDGs

The Struggle for the Right to Food and Nutrition People’s Monitoring for Accountability Beyond the SDGs FIAN International The right to food arguably remains the most consistently violated human right across the globe. The lack of state accountability and convergent monitoring for human rights principles remains central to the lack of redress for those who face violations of the right to food. In the face of these challenges, CSOs continue to reassert the importance of institutional spaces to hold states accountable to human rights obligations, and to ensure that accountability and monitoring remains at the center of inter-governmental processes seeking to fulfill international mandates towards development, human rights and food security. Overcoming fragmentation and ensuring connection between monitoring processes is essential to ensure that human rights are addressed across UN spaces and most importantly, implemented and assessed at national level. For the Right to Food and Nutrition, there is the critical need to build stronger bridges and dialogues across the mechanism of the SDGs, the Committee on World Food Security in Rome, and the traditional Human Right to Food monitoring carried out by the Treaty Bodies and the UPR and the Special Procedures in Geneva. We invite you to join us at the event. The Struggle for the Right to Food and Nutrition People’s Monitoring for Accountability beyond the SDGs, where we will discuss this issue through an interactive question and answer session. To register, contact Geneva-assistant@fian.org by February 27.
